JSTKD students put in a great performance

By GEM Community Correspondent in Martial Arts

There was another great performance from Team JSTKD at the recent TAGB Midlands Tae Kwon Do Championships.

Nine intrepid competitors made the journey to Kettering, Northants.

This time, the team was made up solely of juniors, all of whom represented JSTKD admirably.

Team regulars Menna and Harri Burmingham, Josh and Sean Edwards, Alisha Roberts, Zak Grinter and Alex Munn were joined by two new recruits, Sion and Cai Selby who have both recently got their first yellow stripes.

Competitors must have a yellow stripe or above to participate and both boys were keen not to waste any time in getting their names on the score sheet.

The team got off to a flying start with Menna claiming bronze in the Girls Black Belt Patterns, Josh grabbing the bronze in the Boys Black Belt Lightweight sparring and younger brother Sean coming away with the gold in the Boys Black Belt Peewee sparring.

Great performances were also given in the colour belt events by Alisha, Zak and Harri as well as Alex, who fought on bravely despite taking a hard kick to the head.

The newest team members certainly didn’t let a lack of experience stand in their way.

Sion made an impressive debut with a fantastic effort which saw him win the gold in the Boys Yellow Belt Peewee Sparring event, while Cai’s debut also resulted in success as he won bronze in the Boys Yellow Belt Lightweight Sparring.

JSTKD has classes throughout the Vale for all abilities from three years up to adults and offers a free taster lesson for new students.
