Giving new mums a start in looking after baby

By GEM Community Correspondent in Local People

Following Coun Hodge’s recent call for Barry Town Council to provide baby boxes for all new mothers in the town, readers may be interested to know about a scheme that was recently launched by Coastlands Family Church in Barry.

‘Baby Basics’ provides a starter pack of essentials for new mums who are struggling to cope with the financial and practical burden of a new baby.

The packs consist of a Moses basket packed with baby clothes, nappies, towels, sheets, blankets, maternity towels, shampoo and wash and a soft toy suitable for a newborn baby. Baby Basics also provides previously used baby equipment, such as cots and prams.

Everything is free of charge and referrals are made by midwives, health visitors and other professionals. Baby Basics is available to new mothers across the Vale who need support.

Donations are welcomed, but secondhand mattresses cannot be accepted.

For more information, contact the Baby Basics coordinator, Pauline Byrne, on valebabybasics@yahoo.com or call 07933 918031.
