School assault: girls cautioned

By GEM Staff Reporter in Crime

Two teenagers arrested after a pupil at Ysgol Bro Morgannwg was assaulted on Buttrills Playing Field in Barry, have been given youth conditional cautions.

The girls, aged 13 and 15, were dealt with by Barry Youth Panel on February 2.

As a result of the cautions – the highest out-of-court sanction that can be

imposed – the offenders will be required to adhere to a variety of interventions by the Youth Offending Service. Failure to comply with the conditions imposed will see the original matter referred to court.

Vale Police Sergeant Paul Francis said: “This process will help to address the behaviour of the girls who committed the assault, and offer further support to the victim, who will be afforded additional protection by the order.

“This is not an easy option for the offenders. The interventions are intensive and will force them to appreciate the gravity of the assault and understand the huge impact it has had on their victim. They will be under no illusion that failure to comply with its requirements will have serious consequences.

“The order also aims to minimise further distress to the victim, who will be spared the experience of court proceedings, which can be difficult for all concerned.”
