This Valentine’s Day, women in Wales are being invited to make a date with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life.
Event organisers are asking women to share the love by signing up for a Race for Life 5k, event at Newbridge Fields. The event takes place later this year, on Sunday, June 4.
Lisa Sweeting, Cancer Research UK’s South West and Wales events manager, said: “Valentine’s Day is the perfect date to enter Race for Life. By taking part, and raising money for life-saving research, participants will be playing a crucial role in helping more men, women and children survive cancer– giving them the chance to have more time with their loved ones.”
She continued: “Many will be remembering loved ones lost to cancer or celebrating the lives of people dear to them who have survived.
“Every day, 52 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Wales. That’s why we’re calling on women in Bridgend to make a date to beat cancer this Valentine’s Day. Together, we can stop this devastating disease in its tracks.”
Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is an ’inspiring’ women-only series of 5k, 10k, Pretty Muddy, Marathon and Hiking events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding research.
Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work relies on the public’s support. Thanks to the generosity of its supporters, the charity was able to spend over £4 million last year in Wales on some of the UK’s leading scientific and clinical research – helping more men, women and children survive.
Lisa continued: “Race for Life events are non-competitive and participants can choose to walk, jog or run around the course. Whether they’re planning a 5k amble with friends, a 10k sprint or a mud-splattered race around Pretty Muddy, every step participants take will help to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.”
