END of life companion, Helen Grace Fields, who provides vital support to the dying, their families, and friends, is organising an awareness day in Porthcawl at The Y Centre in John Street, Porthcawl on May 11.
She is hoping organisations that care for terminally ill people and those who deal with matters such as wills, insurance, probate, and funerals will attend.
Helen said: “This day is not just for those who are facing terminal illnesses. I want everyone to feel they can come in, talk and find out more.
“Death is the last taboo. It’s common for people not to wish to face it, or not to wish to talk about it. Yet, families and friends need to know people’s wishes and talking about that beforehand is the only way to get a clear picture of what they would like.”
“If things are left unsaid, some people may have a feeling that they’re not sure they did everything they could for someone they’ve lost.”
“It’s important to know a person’s wishes about their treatment, their funeral, and their estate.”
Any organisation interested in having a stand at the Porthcawl event, or sponsoring the day, can contact Helen on 07815 629194. There will be a small charge for stands to cover the costs of hiring the centre.
Dying Matters Awareness Week will take place from May 8 t-14. To find out more, see http://www.dyingmatters.org/page/AwarenessWeek2017.
