A Llantwit Major couple recently celebrated their Diamond Wedding at Illtyd’s 216 restaurant in their home town.
Margaret and Jim Morgan first met when they both worked in the office of a toy manufacturing company in the early days of the newly-formed Bridgend Trading Estate.
Jim was a buyer and Margaret worked as a personal secretary.
They were married in St Illtyd’s Church, Llantwit Major, on February 2, 1957, and settled shortly afterwards in the historic west end of the town, about 100 yards from where Margaret was born 83 years ago. It is where they still live.
Jim, who is now 93, was born and brought up in Penarth.
They have a daughter, Jill, a son, Alun, and two grandchildren Thomas and Rhiannon.
Throughout their married life they have been very much a part of the social life of the community and have been involved with many of the town’s organisations.
Margaret still bowls with the local bowling club and Jim, who served for five years with the Royal Corps of Signals during World War Two, remains a member of the local branch of the Royal British Legion.
They enjoy working in their large garden wher they particularly love to cultivate flowers.
They regularly attend the church where they were married all those years ago.
People travelled to Margaret and Jim’s celebration from East Anglia, Malvern and south Wales.
