Citizens' group wants to put together a new Porthcawl people’s plan

A new Porthcawl group wants residents to come forward with ideas for regeneration in the town – and the first meeting is on Saturday, February 18.

A pilot steering group made up of representatives from Chamber of Commerce, Civic Trust, Bridgend Tourism Association, Porthcawl Shout Forum and the Voluntary Sector has been assembled to drive forward the creation of ‘Porthcawl People’s Plan.’

Mike Clarke, the leader of the steering group, said: ‘We want to invite everyone across Porthcawl to become involved, to be inspired by the feeling that you can share your hopes and dreams for Porthcawl.

“Every suggestion will be taken into account, and while some may not be practical we are sure that many will be quite visionary.

“The message to Porthcawl people is “don’t be constrained by what you have seen from BCBC over the years – think outside the box – dare to dream!”’

He said that a successful plan is likely to be a mixed development, some housing, plans that address tourism needs and the wider retail centre in Porthcawl, leisure facilities, public spaces, innovative provision of car parking and new commercial space.

The plan is being launched at the Y Centre on Saturday, February 18, and the event will run from 10am to 6pm.
