A good deed from Llantwit folk

By Tim Chapman in Local People

When a Llantwit Major couple lost £150 of their pension money, they need not have worried because the good people of the town came to their aid and replaced it.

The couple are near neighbours of local resident Helen Taylor who explained: “They went into the main Llantwit Post Office on Tuesday, April 4 to get their money but by the time they got home discovered they had lost £150.

“They went back to the Post Office and the Co-op, but nothing had been handed in.”

An appeal was made by social media as to whether anyone had found the cash – unfortunately there was no response.

Jane Hydon suggested on Facebook that local people take matters into their own hands and make up the money.

The staff at Bella Rose, Steff, Rachel and Sian kindly put a donation box in the shop – and the response was instant.

By Friday the total was £98.50, and by Monday it was over £300.

The couple concerned, Gina and Ken Drew, were thrilled that people were so kind.

Among the donations were the Co-op’s £30 in vouchers; a £20 donation from Farmers Pantry, and £10 from Vale Podiatry.

Helen said: “The community spirit is overwhelming. It shows the generosity and kindness of local people. Gina and Ken were very grateful for the kind gifts.”

So what had started off as an unhappy incident was transformed by good-hearted people into a positive community reponse.
