Bridgend County Borough Council - Building Excellence Awards 2012
Thursday, 23 February 2012

THE seventh annual Building Excellence Awards are set to be held in Bridgend on Wednesday 29 February 2012.
By GEM Staff
Organised by Bridgend County Borough Council’s Building Control team, the awards are designed to showcase high-quality buildings and recognise design teams who have overcome technical issues by developing innovative and creative solutions. Nominations for the awards are provided by the council’s Building Control surveyors who are responsible for supervising the projects as they progress on site through to the completion of the building work. With the ceremony set to take place at the Civic Offices in Angel Street, there are nine categories of award. The winners are judged on their construction and technical building qualities. The awards will be presented by Deputy Mayor Councillor Marlene Thomas, Councillor Phillip White, Cabinet Member for Communities, Councillor Mike Gregory and Satwant Pryce, Head of Regeneration and Development. The winners will also go forward to the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) awards for South Wales, which will be hosted by television and radio personality Jason Mohammed at the Vale of Glamorgan Golf and Spa Resort on 20 April 2012. The winning entries from South Wales will then have an opportunity to be recognised on a national scale at the LABC National Building Awards in London this November, where they will compete against entries from the rest of the UK. Councillor Phil White, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: “The LABC awards have become well established over the last few years and have played an important role in promoting the many Building Control services offered by the council. “We have also created a new planning award based on the LABC categories which is intended to encourage further high-quality design work and help make more companies aware of how the council’s Building Control and Planning services can offer expert help and support.” For more information, visit the planning pages at www.bridgend.gov.uk
